Europe Fever

It's been a few weeks since I've been back in Singapore, but I sooo want to be in Europe. I've always wanted to live in Europe, but instead I end up in places like NZ and Singapore (not that I'm complaining or anything)...

The trip started in Germany with our company world sports event. I cannot even begin to describe it, for those in AIESEC it was something like 5 ICs put together as there were over 2500 people there. We even had a global village night and study tours to Hamburg and Hannover ;) It definately has to be one of my key highlights while working here. Srini, Maryna and Amit also came by to see Gitti and me for the weekend (which is always fun for us but I doubt Srini shares our sentiments, but we love him anyway).

It's fun visiting people in their hometowns especially when that's not where you know them from. The tours from locals are soo much better (well, when they actually do know their city) :) Nicky, Chris and Ryan showed me around Rotterdam. I now get peoples fascination for the "Dudok Apple Pie", it is truly DIVINE. I got to meet Nicoline's brother too, which adds to the personal / family touch in the city.

Amsterdam lived up to expectations and catching up with Marije and Ruth was even better. Marije thought it would be best to see Amsterdam the dutch way and we took bikes, but as soon as I hit the main street with traffic, I freaked out, lost control and landed on my arse. In my defence, I haven't been on a bike in 12 years!! Ok ok it's not an excuse, and not a story I really want to share :P

Aaaaah, I then went to Stockholm to catch up with Judit and Nisarg and Giedre and Liam came up from Lithuania and Poland too. The whole trip was filled with kiwi reunions, it couldn't have been better. Stockholm is a stunning city and after all the only one I left feeling like I was leaving home. Maybe it was seeing 2 sets of flatmates again and doing the stuff we usuall do together or maybe because I spent the most time there.....whatever it was...I call it HOME...cause home is where the heart is, right?

I ended up in Berlin to visit Nicole, who has a gorgeous flat and also drove me around (which was great cause after all the walking and work out intially, I could barely stand). Nicole, I do owe you a longer visit though but it's your turn next ;)

Aah....I'm already longing for Europe again....will have to wait till next year..

Happy Anniversary!

All day staring at the ceiling
Making friends with shadows on my wall
All night hearing voices telling me
That I should get some sleep
Because tomorrow might be good for something

Hold on
Feeling like Im headed for a breakdown
And I dont know why

But Im not crazy, Im just a little unwell
I know right now you cant tell
But stay awhile and maybe then youll see
A different side of me
Im not crazy, Im just a little impaired
I know right now you dont care
But soon enough youre gonna think of me
And how I used to be...me

Im talking to myself in public
Dodging glances on the train
And I know, I know theyve all been talking about me
I can hear them whisper
And it makes me think there must be something wrong with me
Out of all the hours thinking
Somehow Ive lost my mind

But Im not crazy, Im just a little unwell
I know right now you cant tell
But stay awhile and maybe then youll see
A different side of me
Im not crazy, Im just a little impaired
I know right now you dont care
But soon enough youre gonna think of me
And how I used to be

Ive been talking in my sleep
Pretty soon theyll come to get me
Yeah, theyre taking me away

But Im not crazy, Im just a little unwell
I know right now you cant tell
But stay awhile and maybe then youll see
A different side of me
Im not crazy, Im just a little impaired
I know right now you dont care
But soon enough youre gonna think of me
And how I used to be

Yeah, how I used to be
How I used to be
Well, Im just a little unwell
How I used to be
How I used to be
Im just a little unwell....

GOA Nite

My mum's going to be soo amused when I tell that I went to an Indian cultural night here - more specifically "GOA Nite". The Goans are the closest community to mine - Mangalorean. When Lee first asked me if I wanted to go, my intial reaction was "no way"!! I know what happens at these community gatherings (apart from the copius amounts of drinking, dancing and eating)!! It took me a few minutes to realise that I don't know anyone from my community here, so the chances of being introduced to my aunt's sister-in-law's nephew and the likes were pretty slim. So I did go and I did have fun.

Goa Nite
Dancing to the "bailas"...love it! The Mangaloreans / Goans probably get the type of music that was played that night apart from the "bailas" :) Oooh ooh and we even did the marches...hehe!! I had no one to jive with though.

Lee, me and Adarsh
Lee and Adarsh were my dates for the night. For the Bangaloreans - Adarsh and I even met this old Josephite (ok only 5 years older, but back in school that was a big deal). He was soo tickled to see a Sophiate and Josephite together (we were too amused ourselves to correct him). We reminiced a bit about B'lore and talked about the changes (I will refrain from blogging about it).

goa nite
Parkie to me before I left for the night, "Isn't it an Indian Dance? You don't look very Indian." What can I say? I guess we were colonised...

Our biggest disappointment was the pork sarpothel (hahaha apart from the fact that it was the only reason Adarsh was there). The craving for Mangalorean / Goan food is still strong....the things I'd do for good food....maka zai go ;)

I tried it too...

You Belong in London

A little old fashioned, and a little modern.
A little traditional, and a little bit punk rock.
A unique woman like you needs a city that offers everything.
No wonder you and London will get along so well.

Yep, I agree! Next move.

Happy Mother's Day!

happy mother's day

A mother's love determines how
We love ourselves and others.
There is no sky we'll ever see
Not lit by that first love.
Stripped of love, the universe
Would drive us mad with pain;
But we are born into a world
That greets our cries with joy.

How much I owe you for the kiss
That told me who I was!
The greatest gift--a love of life--
Lay laughing in your eyes.

Because of you my world still has
The soft grace of your smile;
And every wind of fortune bears
The scent of your caress.
